When you have decided to sell your business it can be challenging to find the right buyer. It can take some time too. So even when you plan to sell in the future think about when you want to start advertising. How to sell my dive business? Consider these points.
Continue Business as usual.
Make sure you continue business as usual if possible and even invest in your business as you normally would. A property that is not in the best shape will not sell as easy as one which is in tiptop shape of course. So if you can invest a little in the normal maintenance or even in nice upgrades then you definitely should try to do it.
This puts you also in a better position to sell and negotiate the best price.
What am I selling?
Give a good overall description of your business but there is no need to go into the tiniest of details like how many snorkels or mask are included in the sale. You will provide more in depth information when asked at a later date. Make nice photos yourself or have someone do it for you. You want your listing to pop out of course.
What price do I want for my dive business?
In my humble opinion, it is very important to be upfront about the price you want for your dive business. This will filter out reactions from people who have a smaller budget and thus don’t waste your and their time.
Who wants to buy my dive business?
You will probably also get reactions by email which at first glance seem not that interesting but answer every email as if this is the person who will buy your business. You might be surprised. It is also a very good way to ‘practice’ your response to future reactions.
If you want to be contacted only through a private email account then make sure to mention this in your advertisement. Another option is to have people contact you only through the site’s contact form. Sometimes people will send an e-mail directly to your normal business email account which will be read by staff who might not know that your business is for sale…
Do I hide the fact that I am selling?
Do I want my guests or competitors to know that I am selling? Probably not…. Stay anonymous by editting out the names of boats or names and logos that identify your business. Use photos that are not used on your website or your social media. Place the pin in Google Maps in the general area of where your business is situated. Maybe even in the middle of the country of where your dive business is and only name the area. You can disclose this information at a later date to a potential buyer.
